CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If your CWS sliding or patio door is sticking, leaking, or letting daylight through the frame where it shouldn’t, we can usually match the part and install it for between $340 and $1,100, depending on whether we’re replacing rollers, a handle set, weatherstripping, or the full door panel. We stock common CWS-compatible hardware in our Orlando trucks, so many jobs are done in a single visit. Most homeowners discover the problem the hard way: the door that used to glide with two fingers now takes a shoulder, or the afternoon thunderstorms we get in Orlando start leaving a damp track on the floor.
Westlight Windows Orlando is an independent service provider. We install and service doors from eight manufacturers, CWS included, but we’re not owned by CWS and we don’t claim to be. What we do claim is that a sliding door should open like it’s on bearings, and when it doesn’t, one of us will show up, tell you what’s actually wrong, and hand you a written price before any work starts.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS manufactures sliding glass doors and patio doors under a handful of series designations, and the hardware isn’t universal across all of them. The big compatibility gotcha is this: CWS roller assemblies changed dimensions somewhere around the 2016 model year, and a roller carrier that fits a 2014 rail won’t sit right in a 2019 track. You can check your door’s label on the inside of the frame near the lock stile: it’ll list a series code beginning with a letter, usually in tiny etched or ink-printed text. That code matters more than a photo of the door.
For most CWS patio doors in Orlando, we recommend OEM parts if the door is still under warranty or if it’s an impact-rated assembly. If the door is older and the original rollers have worn to flat spots, quality aftermarket replacements with the same wheel diameter and offset will perform just as well, and they’re often $20 to $40 cheaper per side. The honest trade-off: aftermarket rollers sometimes use a softer nylon bearing that wears faster in sandy conditions. If your patio faces a retention pond or you’re near the sand-rich soil on the north side of Lake Apopka, spend the extra few dollars for OEM.
Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Doors Are Failing
- The door drags or makes a grinding sound on the track. That’s almost always a roller bearing that’s seized or a wheel that’s worn flat. Fifteen years in Florida humidity does that to the cheap steel bearings inside mid-grade rollers.
- You can see light or feel a draft around the jamb when the door is closed. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. On CWS doors the interlock weatherstrip at the meeting stile fails first because it’s the flex point every time the door opens.
- The handle flops or the lock won’t catch the strike plate. Internal spring tension in the handle set has failed, or the door panel has sagged a quarter inch and the lock no longer lines up.
- Water puddles on the floor after a hard Orlando rain. The weep holes at the bottom track are blocked with silt, or the bottom rail gasket has gone rigid and no longer seals. This one gets worse every hurricane season if left alone.
- The screen door jumps the lower rail or falls out. The screen’s top hanger springs have lost tension, and the bottom guide has worn a groove. It’s the most common call we get in late spring.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote for CWS-compatible sliding and patio door service in Orlando, installed:
- Roller and track tune-up, both panels: $340 to $560 installed. That includes new rollers, track cleaning, and a wax coat on the rail. About an hour and a half of labor.
- Handle set replacement (interior pull, exterior pull, latch): $180 to $320 installed. The part is usually $80 to $140 depending on finish, white is always less than bronze.
- Full weatherstripping package (interlock, sweep, jamb seals): $280 to $450 installed. We pull the panels to get to everything, which is why labor runs higher than the material cost.
- Screen door repair or replacement panel: $140 to $380. A new CWS-compatible screen is more than a patch, and if we replace it, it comes with a written guarantee.
- Full door panel replacement (single panel, standard or impact): $800 to $1,100 installed for a standard panel; impact-rated panels run higher depending on glass package.
Every one of these jobs follows the Kingswell Way, which we follow at Westlight Windows Orlando: we give you the price before the work, in writing. We show up in the window we gave. We leave the floor cleaner than we found it. We put the guarantee on paper. And if the repair fails within the year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No revised invoices at the door, no “yeah, but that other part was also worn.” The price is the price.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door hardware isn’t the most dangerous thing to work on, but I’ve watched homeowners snap a tempered panel trying to lift it out with the wrong technique, and a broken patio door is a five-hundred-pound safety liability. The safe DIY checks are visual: run your finger along the bottom rail and look for flat spots on the wheels, see if the interlock weatherstrip is folded back, and spray the track with a dry silicone lube. Cleaning the track with a shop vacuum is fine. Removing the panel to replace rollers? That’s where we earn the call. The panel on a CWS impact door can weigh 180 pounds or more, and if it tips on a tile floor, you’re replacing a door, not a roller. Call (850) 493-7894 and one of us will come look at it.
FAQs
CWS rollers typically last 12 to 18 years in Orlando, but doors near salt air or sandy soil can eat a roller set in under 10. If your door is over 12 years old and dragging, the rollers are done.
Most sliding door problems can be repaired without replacing the panel: rollers, handles, weatherstripping, and screen assemblies are all serviceable. We only recommend replacement when the frame itself is bowed, the glass seal has failed, or the cost of parts exceeds sixty percent of a new panel. Call (850) 493-7894 and we’ll tell you the truth either way.
A roller and track replacement on a two-panel CWS slider takes about two hours from the time we start pulling the panels to the time we test the glide. Weatherstripping work runs closer to three hours because the panels come out and go back in twice.
We stock common CWS-compatible rollers, handle sets, weatherstripping, and screen components on our Orlando service trucks. Oddball finishes or older series hardware may need a three-to-five-day order. You’ll know before we leave the first visit.
If your CWS sliding or patio door is giving you trouble, the fastest way to get a straight answer is to call Westlight Windows Orlando at (850) 493-7894. We’ll schedule a time, show up in the window we gave, and hand you a written price before we touch a screw. Owen Satterfield has been sorting out Orlando doors for years now, and he’ll tell you what’s actually wrong without turning it into a sales pitch. A window should work so well you forget it’s there, and a sliding door should too.
